Here is the whole idea. Just added the first paragraph.

IBD recently introduced an options strategy to limit risk around earnings. The strategy provides a way to capitalize on the upside potential of a stock's move around earnings, while reducing the risk of a negative reaction to an earnings report. Weekly or monthly options can be used -- so long as the cost for the option is right.

The options market might sound a bit daunting, but the strategy isn't complicated.

First, look for stocks at or near proper buy points. Most will be building bases. After that, look for a slightly out-of-the-money weekly or monthly call option. This means the strike price is just above the underlying stock price. Every strike price comes with a premium, or the cost of the option. Divide the premium by the stock price, and multiply by 100; this gives you the downside risk for the trade in percentage form. Looks for trades with downside risk of 4% or less.

... ACE, for me the 3/8 or 4/8 cross is not my action signal to buy or sell. It is a confirming signal for likely trend change or support/resistance retests. My action signals come from rsi8, slostoch10 and macd 6,13,5. These are evaluated with the price action relative to the bb and Kchannel separation, looking for excesses. The price excesses point to a coming change before the ema's will turn. Divergences in the indicators also occur before the actual ema cross. Therefore, the ema action for me is confirmation because it lags. Also, if there is no downcross (a sign of strength) or upcross (a sign of weakness) I start looking for bounce/re-entry points. On parabolic moves I watch price and it's relationship with 8ema, whether the angle is maintained, even though price may test to 13ema. As long as there are no indicator divergences odds are it is safe to continue holding. Lastly, I look at what the structure looks like using VbP bars and support/resistance lines, previous key reversal candles etc to help identify target price points. Not an exhaustive explanation, but some of what I look for and trade by. Hope that sheds a little light on my preferences and style. The signaling itself IMO is quite simple. ...

Saving SK's Itchi cloud explanation ...

> Littleshark - Hi Little Shark. Let me try to explain Ichimoku cloud here with my limited knowledge. Chart wise it looks complex but its very SIMPLE 🙂. With this tool. You can see the trend, Support / Resistance all in one place. Everyone trading strategy is different.

With the cloud,
1. You can capture 60% of the gain (Not first 20 % at the beginning or the later 20% at the end. If you try to capture those, you may end up in loosing trend. That's the main concept about the clouds to capture majority and not the MAXIMUM I am using SBGL current chart to explain the components of the clouds and more importantly the trading strategy using the cloud. There will be 2 section 1. Understanding the cloud components and no. 2. Trading Strategy using those components.

1. Understanding the cloud components - There are 5 major components in the cloud. I some of you know already but this is for refresher and reference. Look at them in Blue label on the SBGL chart.

2. Trading Strategy using the cloud. very simple - When its above the Cloud it's Bullish and when its under the cloud it's bearish and when inside the middle, its decision time (Don't know where it will end up. Don't trade here) To Enter Bullish Trade following criteria need to meet depending your time frame. I am using SBGL Current Chart. Please look at the label in red to entry and exit. Following criteria need to be satisfied

A. Price Action needs to be Above the Cloud

B. Forward Cloud must print bullish ( Green in Standard)

C. Conversion line must be above the base Line

D. Lagging Span needs to be above the Cloud

When Do you exit: Some people use Conversion crossing down the Base line ( It may be too early based on you trading time frame)\ Some use closing bellow Leading Span A ( I prefer this way. little longer term)

Here its is all about 80% of the cloud system in a nut shell.

Saving Old Mal's posted trading preferences ...

Sectors: I don't trade sector ETFs but yes if a sector is hot I look for individual stock within that sector to trade. I look for price movement and pattern breaks.

Stocks directly: Yes I look for swing trade set ups.

Yes index ETF's because they are easy targets. Charts don't lie.

I have done options before. They are good money method. But locks you in for a period.

OTC: Except DRYS under $5 stocks I seldom touch. Unless they have high volume exit can be tricky. Trades 1,000 or less shares are ok.

Volatility: OH YES. That's where the profit is. More set ups to work with. Bigger swings mean more profit in less time. Example last Friday I took TQQQ long trade. It paid $19.26 per MINUTE. Closed it at one hour. I don't try to hold for tops. Against one of my rules. Plus weekend coming.

Weekend: No. I never hold over a weekend. News can kill you Monday morning.

100% cash: Yes. Volume is weak. Markets are neutral on their 50s sideways. It's coiling to move. But up or down? Waiting for a set up. I never gamble.

Sides: I guess on average 8 longs and 2 shorts per 10 trades for now. Depends on the market trend direction. I just go with the market direction.

CMAC: OK - here it is......currently in the down-channel. It cud just as easily to the top of the down-channel (be in a perfect position to short).....and then continue heading south.......near the bottom of the down-channel. Get it? Wyckoff and his co-hort Bob Evans used to say the same thing - near the bottom support line of the down-channel the stock (or index) would eventually veer away from the support line ....... continue going sideways and not going lower......then eventually go right thru the resistance line and head upwards.......they did this ALL THE TIME.....at an important turn. Also....the volume would DRY UP.....near the bottom area too. I wonder why? The Wall Street Sharks were at it again.....leaving their "tracks" right in front of all of us. Slammin Sam

(MAL): Yes sir it does. I ALWAYS look at the opposite ETFs before moving. Common examples I use are UDOW/SDOW, SSO/SDS, TQQQ/SQQQ, TNA/TZA. I popped a $608 today just from comparing them day trading. Then got $480 in after market on SDOW by looking at that relationship. 1. Look for who is moving MORE away or towards their 13 ema? 2. Does one have more volume than the other? Volume signals end of a run. 3. Are they moving with the days market direction? Indexes trend to want to move around their 20 ma so ETFs will follow that.

So ~ for RIGHT NOW ~ is COMPQ the one to short with PUTs or otherwise ? ,,, since it hasn't fell as much yet ,,, so PUTs may still be comparatively cheap yet ,,, but COMPQ most likely (ODDS) will follow the others down ... ,,, ... someone please tell me ,,, what are the symbols to go short or ultra short the COMPQ ? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SHARK....for me the answer is SIMPLE....go with buying a put on QQQ....that's usually what I do when I want to short the COMPQ....QQQ gets you pretty darn close to that index...and when QQQ drops, you can score some pretty nice coin! Usually, the puts on QQQ are not too richly valued, because most traders like to bet the Q's going long (in other words, the calls are usually worth more than the puts)....

I have fooled around with the exotic stuff like QID calls before (QID is an ultra levered ETF for Nasdaq stocks)...but the problem with the QID and most levered ETFs is the bid/ask spread is often wide and the trades seem somewhat illiquid....and the premiums can be pricy because the levered ETFs have greater implied volatility to them....

With QQQ, the puts trade tightly on the bid/ask and that usually allows me to execute a trade quickly and close to or on target....only SPY seems to have tighter spreads than QQQ...

slamminsam 6 hours ago:

"Lil Shark - Let me clarify a little bit as far as "trapping" a stock or index, or whatever. Remember when I called the bottom in '09? The way I did it then was to calculate how much the Dow was going down on a daily basis......and then to calculate how long it would take for the market to go down to zero. We all pretty much knew it wouldn't go down to zero, right? t the time it was going down severely. Toward the end it was going down approx. 500 points a week and it looked like the end of the world. This is what the Wall St. Sharks wanted everyone to think - so as to keep unwanted bulls out of the market - at the bottom. It takes lotsa guts to buy the mkt when it's going straight down. Anyway - the short term calculations were that the Dow was around 7000 and going down 500 points per week......if it had kept going down at that rate - divide 7000 by 500 and you would come up with......14......meaning in 14 weeks the Dow would be zero and the market would be bankrupt. I knew that wouldn't happen....for sure! So I think the next week it went down another 500 points to around 6500. I had a resistance line drawn showing how the Dow would go down to zero - AS LONG AS IT STAYED UNDER THIS RESISTANCE LINE. The next week I fully expected it to go down to the 5500 area......Then around 6200 the Dow BROKE THRU THE DOWNWARD SLOPING RESISTANCE LINE and that was the Buy-Signal for me....so I called my wife up and we went "all in." The rest is history.....6500 to over 20000 ain't bad, huh?

We can now do the same thing with bitcoin.......draw a downward sloping resistance line and see when (and if) it's broken. One could calculate that bitcoin is going down sharply.....sooner or later this downward sloping resistance line HAS to be broken - or it will go to zero. As long as we don't think it'll totally collapse......we could calculate when bitcoin has turned around by when it breaks thru the resistance line......so in actuality we only have to draw one resistance line - if you know where to draw it - ain't all that hard. Hope you get it........Sam (end paste)
