DICK BUTKUS AND GALE SAYERS...TWO OF THE GREATEST EVER ROOKIES ON THE SAME TEAM!

I came across this video on YouTube, and it reminded me that back in 1965, the Chicago Bears had two of the greatest rookie players (one offense and the other on defense) ever to appear on the professional gridiron....AMAZING TO ME STILL THAT BOTH OF THEM WERE ON THE SAME TEAM!

MIKE DITKA said that the 1965 NFL Draft was the greatest draft of talent in NFL history, and the two greatest players in that draft were Sayers and Butkus, and they both ended up on the same team....DITKA says that will probably never happen again!

It's still amazing me to how these two great rookies and future hall of famers could not bring the Bears a championship team in the late 1960s! Those years were dominated by the Bears arch-nemesis Green Bay Packers....Though the Packers were a dominant team, the individual performances of these two great players  were quite entertaining on any given Sunday...an 8 minutes video.

Ace:  Good idea.  Our Syracuse football team won the National title in 1959.....undefeated that year and beat Texas 23 - 14 in the finals for the National Title.

In 2003 our basketball team beat Kansas to win the title - of course we had Carmelo Anthony too......We have been to the Final Four 5 times and won it once......I think losing in the Finals twice.  This year we ain't that good....maybe a top 10 team at best.....if we start to jell.

Sam, Syracuse has been quite a force on the basketball courts over the years!  I wasn't aware of that 1959 football team, but then I was just a little rug rat! Thanks for sharing!

Ace - thanks.  I was in the Navy near Norfolk, VA in 1959 and I got a chance to go to the game they played against Navy in Norfolk......we won easily and I was obviously rooting for Syracuse.  In fact, I think I was in Syracuse when they played Texas for the National Title.  I'm not sure, but Ben Schwartzwalder may have been the coach.  Our football team is playing in the Camping World Bowl in Orlando on Dec. 28 or 29th against W. Va.....should be a good game.....we are 3 - pt  underdogs........Sam

Syracuse wins in a squeaker over long time rival Georgetown 72 - 71.  We had about 25,000 fans there.....on ESPN2......and we started off ice cold with G'Town leading by 13 points at half time.  We were favored by 12 pts.....so the odds makers didn't look so good for the first half.  G'Town was unranked and Patrick Ewing is the coach.  We started off hot in the 2nd half and got the lead down to 3 points within 4 mins.....after that it was a dog-fight.....we cudda just as easily lost the game with a last second half-court shot which hit the rim - if it went in.....we lose.....This win should put us in the Top 20.  Best game we've had all year and one of the best games we've won coming from almost 15 pts behind to pull it off.  I hope some of you guys saw the game on ESPN....they'll have highlights of the game tonight.  Go 'Cuse!  Slammin Sam
